Herb Loses His Shirt

On Sunday I soloed Herb. He has worked very hard and did a great job. We all prayed very hard that he would bring the only 233 left for the remainder of the flying season back without any dents. When he landed, Desi pulled out the cutters and tried to cut all his clothes off. We all signed his shirt. There were even a few strangers who were looking on that got into the act. Afterward everyone hugged everyone, and it was because Nancy was there and not too many of the older pilots get a chance to hug her, that they decided to go out for beers. That decision was made after I was towed to 5000 feet with Ryan. By the time we got back to the airport it was getting dark and only Bob Boyd was left to greet us and told us to land long. I am sure they didn't want a replay of Franconia when Karel and I raised hell with just a few drinks.
