Tom Gets A Lesson

The first day at Franconia was spent giving check rides. It was not the best day, however some members managed to have some great flights until the rain ended it. Sunday was not as great. Peter organized a spot landing contest. Instructors were not allowed to touch the controls unless their lives were on the line. After two contestants flew, the rules were changed. Charlie and I were in first place most of the day. As a matter of fact, we were in first place all day until Peter took a flight and came in first. I still cannot figure out how he did it, if he was not to touch the controls. ;-)

The next weekend (Sept 9-10) was even more fun. Dave Batson got his "A" & "B" badges. Grant took me up on the ridge for a few lessons on flying. Ted and Jim K. had the two 126s and were flying back and forth together. After about 45 minutes we flew down the valley and headed for the field. Grant spotted some hikers on top of Rat Hill having lunch. It looked like a great place for lunch, but it must have taken them three days to hike in there...

Herb soloed the 134 and Jim was on the Ridge for 45 minutes. Great job for the students.
