Snow Report

A couple weeks ago Dick Usen suggested to me that with all the snow we have had, there might be an excessive load on the wings on the club gliders at Sterling. So I headed out there on Saturday March 10th and took care of as much as I could and also shot some photos for members amusement.

Above is a self portrait with snow removal gear taken in front of the hanger near the fuel pump. I had set the camera, on timer, on top of my car but the wind kept blowing it around and finally I put something heavy on it. Look at the flag, it is almost blowing upwards.

Above is the 1-26. The Blanick trailer is in the background.

Above is the 2-33, with the 1-26 in the foreground.

The airport [as opposed to "gliderport"] is operational; runways are plowed. One Private owner was digging out his Cessna to go flying the next day. Our members quit flying in January because it required taking off and landing right smack centered on the runway because of the snowbanks. Shawn had brought out a snowblower and cleared a path to the ships and last Saturday there was no evidence of it.

I know, when our members in Florida see these photos, they will be so envious at what the have been missing all winter they will pack up and head north before the snow melts.
